How to Become a Volunteer

Volunteering means making a regular commitment. We ask our volunteers to commit to one of the following placement choices:

  • A minimum of one shift (approx. 3-4 hours) for six months and 75 hours for our regular program for both adults and youth.
  • A minimum of one shift (2 hours) per week for six months assisting with meals in Providence Hospital or the Houses of Providence, our Long-Term Care Home.
  • The minimum time commitment for co-op placements is determined by the high school, university or college.
  • Summer Youth volunteers are required to complete 80 hours that consist of 4 hours/day, 5 days/week for 4 weeks in July or August.

All volunteer applicants must attend a personal interview, complete a two-step tuberculosis (TB) test, provide two letters of reference or two reference questionnaires and attend a one-day orientation session prior to beginning their volunteering at Providence.
