How to Become a Volunteer

ALERT

(March 12, 2020) - Please note that the Providence Healthcare volunteer program (including the placements in the Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence) is currently suspended in order to better protect the health and safety of our volunteers, patients, residents, families and staff.

If you are a current volunteer, please check your email or leave us a voicemail message for information and updates.

If you are a future applicant, please periodically check our website for updates as to when we will resume normal operations.

Thank you.

Volunteering means making a regular commitment. We ask our volunteers to commit to one of the following placement choices:

  • A minimum of one shift (approx. 3-4 hours) for six months and 75 hours for our regular program for both adults and youth.
  • A minimum of one shift (2 hours) per week for six months assisting with meals in Providence Hospital or the Houses of Providence, our Long-Term Care Home.
  • The minimum time commitment for co-op placements is determined by the high school, university or college.
  • Summer Youth volunteers are required to complete 80 hours that consist of 4 hours/day, 5 days/week for 4 weeks in July or August.

All volunteer applicants must:

  • attend a personal interview
  • complete a two-step tuberculosis (TB) test from their family doctor or walk-in clinic, and bring in the completed Providence Healthcare form (found when you apply online)
  • Two letters of reference or two completed reference forms (found when you apply on line), and
  • attend a one-day orientation session prior to beginning their volunteering at Providence Healthcare
