Providence Healthcare is participating in the Great Canadian Giving Challenge this June 2020!
From living through an outbreak, now declared over, to not seeing family and friends since March, our residents in our long-term care home, the Houses of Providence, have been the most impacted by COVID-19 at Providence. This inspired Shawn Brady, Senior Clinical Program Director at Providence Healthcare, to write the beautiful song, “Sideways.” He has dedicated this song to our nearly 300 residents.
We’re honoured to introduce you to a few of the residents that you saw in our video.
“I am a happy camper!”
When it was time for him to start looking into a long-term care home 11 years ago, the Houses of Providence seemed like the natural choice for Fr. Gerald Fitzgerald. He had spent his life in the east end of Toronto, working in the Providence community and with the Sisters of St. Joseph who had opened the Houses of Providence.
“Providence is my home now, and there’s no place I’d rather be.”
Mary and Ernest (Ernie) Dodgson moved into our long-term care home, the Houses of Providence, just over a year ago, and truly believe this is their home. Hailing from England, Ernie was a painter and decorator and also served as part of the British Royal Air Force, while Mary had her hands full, as a stay at home mom of four, and later joined the workforce when they moved their family to Canada. The couple have been married for a lifetime, and have a big family, complete with an army of grandchildren.
Mary is a loving mother of two and a doting grandmother of five. She’s also a long-term care resident in the Houses of Providence.
COVID-19 has been difficult on her and her fellow residents. "It's been hard during COVID-19 since we're not happy to be inside all the time, but we understand the precautions that staff are taking. Providence staff have been absolutely wonderful and are doing a good job.”
Our residents and staff in the Houses are asking for your help. Every $1 you donate to Providence in June, counts as a ballot for us to win $20,000 through the Great Canadian Giving Challenge. Please give today!
Funds raised from this campaign will be used to provide essential equipment for our long-term care residents. The more you give, the more chances for us to win the grand prize!
