It was a glorious day at Coppinwood Golf Club, where we held the 25th annual Ken & Nancy Shaw Providence Golf Classic (PGC), presented by EllisDon, on July 15, 2019.
Thanks to everyone who participated and supported us, we raised an incredible and record breaking $260,000 (net) for the patients, residents and clients of Providence Healthcare! Special thanks to our Presenting Sponsor EllisDon and to our Lead Sponsors Scotiabank, Valleymede Homes/Miklas Family and MLSE.
We also doubled the funds we raised for a new Vac Therapy machine. A surprise gift from donor Peter Willson, Chairman & CEO of Willson International Limited, means we are now able to buy two pieces of this essential equipment for Providence Healthcare!
We are so grateful for all of the work of our Committee members, donors (those who raised funds, those who donated and those who provided gifts and services), volunteers, staff and suppliers. It is always humbling to see how much effort people put in to help Providence’s patients, residents and clients. We must never forget the goodness and kindness that is out there in the people of our community.
Guests at the tournament enjoyed a challenging and exhilarating day on the greens provided to us as a donation by our tournament partner Coppinwood Golf Club, playing 18 holes of first-rate golf.
Providence patient John Boag shared his story of perseverance and strength at #PGC2019. As a double amputee, John golfed all day and on the 18th hole sunk an incredible putt. He reminded our 144 golfers of what's really important in life and to count our many blessings. Watch this short video that John prepared for us about his experience at Monday's event.
Combined with fun hole activities, a delicious dinner, stellar silent and live auctions, a touching tribute to Red Kelly (who was a loyal Providence supporter), a wonderful surprise 70th birthday moment for George Macri (who is a dedicated Providence Board Member and long-time PGC Committee Chair), and an awards ceremony hosted by Ken Shaw of CTV, the day was a huge success!
Congratulations to the 2019 tournament champions Jeff Long, Andy Donato, Nick Cagna, and Rob Greenaway. The first-place team members were presented with the Douglas G. Bassett Trophy and will be fitted for the coveted Providence Golf Classic jacket.
