EllisDon designs, constructs, finances, operates and maintains almost anything that can be built. It completes in excess of $3 billion worth of contracts annually, across Canada and internationally. It started in London, Ontario as a general contractor, and today, it is a large company with construction at its core, building everything from skyscrapers to hospitals, and from transit systems to hydroelectric projects.
In Toronto, we see evidence of EllisDon every day around the city. It is responsible for the Rogers Centre (SkyDome), Frank Gehry’s Transformation AGO at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the George Brown College Waterfront Campus, the Pan/Am Games Athletes Village, Eglinton LRT and so much more.
What was it about Providence that attracted EllisDon to support it?
An active and enthusiastic philanthropic force, EllisDon has been a supporter of Providence Healthcare since 2013 and is in its third year of being the Presenting Sponsor of the Providence Golf Classic. In fact, it is a “Champion” sponsor, having donated between $100,000 and $249,999 over the years to Providence.
“We believe in the Providence vision to make a significant impact on the healthcare system and the community,” says David Smith, Vice President & Bid Director – Civil Division, at EllisDon and valued member of the Providence Golf Classic Committee. “We celebrate organizations that are making a mark in their sector by being a power of positive change.”
“This is the very reason we encourage our employees to engage in their communities and use their skills and passion to help others. Giving back isn’t just about creating the appearance of goodwill within the business world. It’s so much more than that. It is about genuine gratitude and caring for those around us,” he adds.
David urges everyone to think about how to make their day at the Providence Golf Classic really count. “Enjoy the course and have fun, but please bid generously in the silent and live auctions and help raise as much money as possible for the patients and residents of Providence Health. It’s personal for them and an important cause to support.”
Providence Healthcare is a leader in providing rehabilitation, palliative care, long-term care and community programs in Toronto.. Many of our patients, especially in our rehab programs, have transitioned from an acute-care hospital and come to Providence to find the confidence, strength, and skills needed to return to the community.
From their first day at Providence, we focus on the existing strengths of our patients, residents and clients – not on what they’ve lost. This sets a positive tone that helps them regain hope, set goals and discover physical and mental strength so they can live as full a life as possible.
On August 1, 2017, Providence Healthcare joined St. Joseph’s Health Centre and St. Michael’s Hospital to operate under one corporate entity. United, the three organizations serve patients, residents and clients across the full spectrum of care, while investing in world-class research and education.
