Amputee Rehabilitation provides rehabilitation for patients who are recovering from a single or double lower limb amputation, as a result of traumatic injury or progress of disease. Upon admission, patients are offered comprehensive assessment and treatment plans. Patient and family members work closely with the interprofessional team to reach identified goals. The patient should have potential for improvement in functional abilities as a result of therapies.
The service includes medical management, strengthening, mobility, activities of daily living, and assistive device training. Patients are provided with ongoing preparation for returning to the community.
Patients who are candidates for a prosthetic device will receive on-site visits by qualified practitioners who will assist in the fitting and fine-tuning of any required device. Their recovery is continued post-discharge through our outpatient Amputee Assistive Devices clinic.
Providence Healthcare accepts and rehabilitates patients who are not candidates for prosthetic devices but require assistance adapting to new functional abilities.
