Our rehabilitation programs are designed to assist adults in regaining optimum health, functioning and independence. Providence’s rehabilitation services are supported by skilled interprofessional teams including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Therapeutic Recreationists, Social Workers, Dietitians, and Speech Language Pathologists. All patients and family are engaged in identifying goals, care planning and the ongoing review of progress planning and discharge.
The programs are:
Specialized Stroke Rehabilitation
Specialized Stroke Rehabilitation provides rehabilitation for patients who are recovering from a recent stroke or other neurological event. Two levels of rehabilitation are offered: High Tolerance and Low Tolerance.
Orthopaedic Rehabilitation
Orthopaedic Rehabilitation provides rehabilitation for patients who are recovering from a surgical repair of a fracture or a complicated joint replacement. The program includes medical management, strengthening, mobility, activities of daily living and assistive device training.
Amputee Rehabilitation
Amputee Rehabilitation provides rehabilitation for patients who are recovering from a single or double lower limb amputation. The program includes medical management, strengthening and mobility training, instruction in the activities of daily living and assistive device training. Patients are provided with ongoing preparation for returning to the community.
Specialized Geriatrics Rehabilitation
The Specialized Geriatrics provides rehabilitation, assessment and treatment for older adults who are experiencing multiple and complex medical and psycho-social problems, or a recent unexplained breakdown in health and function. Referrals are made when the health, dignity and independence of an older adult are at risk. Two levels of care are offered: Geriatric Rehabilitation and Geriatric Assessment and Treatment.
Pre-Rehabilitation
Pre-Rehabilitation acts as a link in the patient’s journey between the acute care hospital and active rehabilitation or discharge. Designed to facilitate the patient’s recovery from an acute injury, illness and/or recent surgery, it assists individuals to prepare for participation in an active rehabilitation program or to return to the community.
