Accessibility at Providence
Providence Healthcare is committed to preventing, identifying and removing barriers that may challenge an individual’s ability to receive care, access our programs and services, or to work/volunteer here.
We are dedicated to improving opportunities for people with disabilities and to provide for their involvement in helping to make Providence more accessible.
Wheelchair access information
All public entrances to Providence Healthcare are accessible by wheelchair.
Wheelchair-accessible washrooms for visitors are located in the following areas:
- Behind Reception at the main entrance to Providence Hospital (2nd Floor)
- Near the entrance to the Seasons Cafe on the 1st Floor of Providence Hospital (A Wing)
- Opposite the Scotiabank Learning Centre on the 1st Floor of Providence Hospital (B Wing)
- Main entrance to the Houses of Providence
Wheelchair accessible washrooms for patients and residents are located throughout the Hospital and Houses.
The Hospital Chapel is accessible by wheelchair on the 3rd Floor, and balconies are wheelchair-accessible on the 4th and 5th Floors.
All buildings and Wings are equipped with elevators and are accessible to those in wheelchairs, as well as individuals with vision impairment (audio identifies the floor and direction of the elevator, and oversized buttons are imprinted with braille).
For hearing impaired patients
To ensure effective communication with patients who are deaf, deafened or hard-of-hearing Providence Healthcare provides access to Pocket Talkers. Please speak with a staff member on your unit for more information.
Interpreter service for patients
In cases where there is a demonstrated need for interpretation, patients and family members will be offered access to the Language Line Over-the-Phone interpretation service. Please speak with a staff member on your unit if you think you require this service.
If you need someone to help you during your visit to the Hospital, please speak with Reception at the main entrance to Providence Hospital. They may be able to arrange for volunteer to assist you. Please be aware that we cannot lift you or transfer you.

Providence Healthcare prepares an accessibility plan, which is updated annually. Providence will consult with persons with disabilities in the preparation of these annual plans and will continue to make them public.
